Which Smartphone?

Since I’ve moved to the US I need a new phone. My old phone is still on a UK network and to use it costs me a small fortune. Therefore, I need to switch to a US network and a perfect opportunity to upgrade. However, there is so much choice out there I am undecided what I want.

The first phone I have ruled out is the iPhone. Everyone I know has one and they are always complaining about the battery life. For me, I do not want to be attached to a power supply to use my phone. In addition, the latest problems with the antenna on the latest version of the iPhone doesn’t leave me with much confidence when the basic function of the phone doesn’t work correctly. Apples response was to hold the phone differently and have a free case on us which will apparently solve the problem. Jobs also suggested that every other smartphone has the same problem. Every phone I’ve ever had never had this problem, so it sounds to me Apple is attempting a diversion tactic here. The fact that Apple is dominating the market with a product that is over priced, doesn’t work correctly, overly controlled with how you can use the phone, I will be looking elsewhere for an alternative.

My preference is a touch screen which rules out most Blackberrys.

I am leaning towards one of the HTC devices. It’s weird that different HTC models are available only on different networks. I cannot quiet get my head around that. I think HTC will be the one I go for probably on AT&T purely because they are the cheapest.

  2. Has anybody at this point literally tried the iphone 4? Just how are the features? I seriously would wish to acquire one for myself however I am real distrustful over the antenna trouble. Any idea if Apple’s going to repair it?

  3. I’ve tried the iphone 4 alright. The antenna’s really giving much problems especially if you’re a left-hander!
